I'm pulling up stakes from Oregon and moving to Boston just in time for the spring climbing season (although they're probably still ice climbing in New Hampshire). Does anyone have good beta on Boston area rock gyms or local crags?

Re: Boston Rock ?
Sat, March 31, 2007 - 11:08 AMIt's been a while since I was there but there used to be some good bouldering/climbing at Purgatory Chasm in Uxbridge...

Fri, June 8, 2007 - 5:45 AMcheck out Boston Rock Gym or Metro Rock for indoor climbing. I've surveyed most of the gyms in eastern mass and found these to be the best. Carabiner's in New Bedford has 65 ft wall but its really far from the the Boston area.

Sat, September 15, 2007 - 9:38 PMI've never climbed in Boston, though i hear there are some boulders somewhere in the city (*skeptical*)...the Providence gym is really nice. And there's plenty of good climbing in the gunks (NY) and up in New Hampshire....but unfortunately all those are good drives distance away. Let me know what you find though...

Re: Boston Rock ?
Thu, January 3, 2008 - 10:28 PMThe place in Woburn sucks. I've been there several times now and just don't bother with it. The routes are poorly set, the roof is too low (short routes only) and the gym is just rather dry and boring. Also, the last time I was there (over xmas vacation), one of the staff members *screamed* at me and came running from across the room because I was spotting my gf's 9 year old niece in their cave. Apparently I was breaking some *major rule* that I couldn't spot her. Talk about an over reaction. I hear the other 3 gyms in Boston are excellent, they are just farther from my gf's family house so we haven't been yet.

Re: Boston Rock ?
Sat, January 5, 2008 - 9:18 PMMetro Rock is my "home gym", and I love it. It's not huge, but it's not tiny either, with lots of cerebral (and very physically tricky) routes and a solid staff. I'm also always on the hunt for more climbing partners (hint hint)...
